Lou's pasta water was at a full rolling boil. To cook the pasta faster, he turned the burner up as high as it goes. It made no difference to the cooking time. Why not?
Hint: Think about what a thermometer in the pot would say.
Answer
Boiling water can't get hotter than its boiling point; extra heat just boils it away faster.
At sea level water stays at about 212°F while it boils, no matter how high the flame.
