At his mountain cabin in Colorado, Tom's pot of water comes to a boil faster than it does at home in Ohio, yet his spaghetti takes longer to cook there. Same pot, same kind of stove. How?
Hint: Think about what's different about where the cabin is.
Answer
At high altitude water boils at a lower temperature, so it boils sooner but isn't as hot.
Thinner air lets water boil below 212°F, and cooler boiling water cooks pasta more slowly.
